On Saturday, 8/29/2026, Newbury Township held its ninth annual car show at their popular Oberland Park on Auburn Rd. The show field was packed with over 400 beautiful cars and trucks of all makes and models. There were even multiples of many of the rare models. Hundreds of die hard car lovers; a majority with gray hair; roamed the field taking in the incredible variety of machinery and showing their love of their life long auto heritage. Stories and discussions were everywhere among the attendees and vehicle owners. Burton-Middlefield Rotary (BMR) used their table to promote their sugar maple tree planting project which has been taking place in the park since spring. To date 75 trees have been planted with another 125 ordered and scheduled for planting this fall. BMR hopes to complete the project sometime during the next planting season with a total of 250 sugar maples creating a forest for tree tapping in the future and celebrating America250 and establishing a living memorial to Geauga County and our maple syrup heritage. Hopefully generations of park goers will enjoy this protected forest for hundreds of years. BMR’s plan for this picturesque and lasting memorial has been copied by several Rotary clubs in northeast Ohio with district support through matching grants. Many show attendees stopped by the table to ask the Rotary staff what this was all about and left making a generous donation towards the completion of the project. The weather man cooperated with a splendid blue sky sunny day. Kudos to the Newbury Township administrators, Newbury Township Park Board of Directors and volunteers that worked hard to make this event a success.
