Interact clubs around the world can either be community or school-based and requires each club to carry out an international and community or school-based program annually. Although Interact programs are sponsored by a local Rotary club each Interact program is responsible for the planning, financing, organizing and execution of its own projects. It is through these projects that each student better understands more fully the nature of society on a broad basis. It is also through their involvement that they realize their own potential skills of self-governance and self-support.

Interact members are typically busy high school students, usually involved in sports, theater, honor society and many other school and church activities. Each year new officers are elected and take control of the club with new ideas and activities. It is the culmination of these Interact experiences and activities that will provide a secure future for all of us. Interactors throughout the world are students who have so much to give and are so ready to help others.

Interact is an international organization of service and social clubs fostering leadership skills, responsible citizenship while promoting international understanding and peace. Rotary clubs around the world continue to promote and provide the guidance and inspiration to these young people. Today, there are approximately 250,000 Interactors around the world; with over 10,000 clubs in 118 different countries.

The following are the basic policies and procedures that govern the Interact program. Further information and guidelines can be found in the Statement of Policies Relating to Interact and the Standard Interact Club Constitution and Standard Interact Club By-laws.

  • Each Interact club must carry out at least two service projects a year – one that benefits the school or community and one that furthers international understanding.
  • Each club must have a Rotary advisor who is a member of the sponsoring Rotary club. This resource person must assist each Interact advisor and those officers of the Interact club.
  • An Interact club can be either school or community-based. A school-based club is subject to the policies and regulations governing all other organizations of that particular school. In most instances, a faculty counselor – who may or may not be a Rotarian – is appointed to work with the Interactors.
  • An Interact club should have approximately 15 members to be chartered
  • The Interact club is mandated to meet at least twice a month meeting at a consistent time so all members can have active participation in the club programs.
  • Interact clubs are historically self-governing and self-supporting organizations that require little or no financial support from the sponsoring Rotary club.
  • Each year the Interact club must select a new slate of officers and directors; those incoming officers should be selected/elected prior to the end of the school year in order that the club can be organized in advance for the following school year. The names, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses of each of the incoming officers must be reported to the District Chairman of the Interact program each year.
  • If there are more than (5) Interact clubs within a district, a district Interact organization may be formed, and the Interactors may elect a District Interact Representative (DIR).
  • Dues, if any, should be minimal; money for projects and activities should be raised through club activities.
  • Each Interact Club MUST submit to the District Interact Chairman an Incoming Officer Data Form, as well as a Project Data Form.
  • An Interact club is not allowed to merge with any other club.

About Rotaract

Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women ages 18 to 30. Rotaract clubs are usually community-based or university-based and are sponsored by a local Rotary club making them true "partners in service" and key members of the Rotary family.

Through the Rotaract program, young adults not only augment their knowledge and skills, but they also address the physical and social needs of their communities while promoting international understanding and peace through a framework of friendship and service.

All Rotaract efforts begin at the local grassroots level and all Rotaract clubs have access to the many resources of Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation.

As one of the most significant and fastest-growing programs of Rotary service, with more than 7,600 Rotaract clubs in some 158 countries, Rotaract has become a worldwide phenomenon.

Rotaractors also often spearhead the formation of Interact clubs and participate in Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. Rotaractors also can go on to become Ambassadorial Scholars or Group Study Exchange team members.

Thanks to the efforts of Susan Haffey, Wickliffe Rotary Club President, we have our second Rotaract Program in District 6630. Congratulations to the Wickliffe club.
